Another Day in Astrakhan

The Day,

This day was a normal day, that is until we were told "we leave at 5:30 for the Ministry of Education."! We said, "OK!"

What were not told was that at 5:30 we would be questioned about anything and everything about ourselves and, most importantly, we were going to see a picture of our daughter. The Taxi came, we got in. We parked, walked to the seond floor and sat in over- stuffed green couches in an unairconditioned room. The questioning was brief, but still caused at least 25 gallons of sweat to pour from our bodies. Then, for a long time a woman, who held our future child in her database, looked at pictures. She printed a sheet off and handed it to us. Our translator went through the specifics.
"Would you like to see a picture?"
And then, turning the screen, we saw a cute baby girl . . . brown eyes, brown hair, we ooooed and coooooed.

Joy, nervousness, mystery, more joy, and hunger (just for me, Andi has chocolate) We don't feel comfortable sharing specifics until we meet with the orphanage doctor and social worker tomorrow at 10:00am! Then we will meet her! Pray for us! More tomorrow!!!!

The suspense is killing me!...We are so excited that everything went so well! A cute baby girl with brown hair and eyes...can't wait to hear more...How old is she? What's her name? Did she like the toys you brought her? Oh nevermind, just give us all the details....

We are soooo anxious to hear all the details! I know you are just biding your time until your appointment tomorrow.

Andi, be sure to send me her size. Your dad and I will be in St. Louis for a meeting and I will have time to do some shopping for our new granddaughter!

I pray that the time will pass quickly and that there will be no surprises when you finally meet your little sunshine tomorrow!

We love you

Congratulations! I am glad that you finally got your meeting, and that you both made it through. I am sure that the moment when you saw the picture of her was absolutely priceless.

I will continue to pray for you as you meet her tomorrow!

Really Dave says,

Hi Jonah and Andi,

We are very excited about you being able to see her picture for the first time. We are also getting a chuckle out of Jonah's running commentary. Ellen says she is partial to brown eyes, go figure!

Your in our prayers, The Singhs

Jonah and Andi God bless you as you meet your daughter. Caleb is really exited...surely. He has introduced me to salami and cream cheese roll ups and I'll be up all night with the heartburn. We went on an elf-hunt at the antique store this afternoon. I showed him Nicole's collection, then we went in the antique mall and hunted. We found about nine, and bought four for a bargain as only one had both arms. He got really attached to a boy scout knife. He told me he's looking for a good knife. I said that maybe he needs to pick that out with Daddy. So he settled, after much deliberation, on a glass piggy bank. He was torn as you can't get the money out, theoretically, without breaking the bank. With great angst he hurried into the house upon arrival and put two quarters in the bank and immediately shook them back out. Now he feels confident that he can use the bank and still retrieve his money, if needed.

Oh salami.
Good night.

The rule is go in and look at her then run out and send us the details!!! Do we need to FedEx you a scanner for pictures!! We can't wait for more info, so don't hold back! We are ready for some major girl shopping as it is long overdue! We are so happy that it seems to be going well. Have fun meeting her!

Andi (& Jonah),

I have tears of joy for you. I know you have waited for this moment for so long! I will be praying for you tomorrow as you meet your little sunshine. We'll be sure to pray for you at Bible Study too - do you know that tomorrow is Wednesday? I imagine it's hard to keep track of time over there.

Take care of yourselves!
Julie :)
