The First Night

Last night L slept great! We were intrigued by her bedtime rituals. She has some interesting ways of soothing herself to sleep. Right now, L is taking a nap in the crib. She is rocking on her hands and knees and babbling. It breaks our hearts that she has had to learn to soothe herself so early in life, yet it’s comforting knowing that she is able to fall asleep fairly easily, even in the most unusual circumstances.

This morning she is bright-eyed and ready to conquer the hotel. L is eating very well. She likes rice cereal, fruit, potatoes, yogurt, you name it. We’ll take it easy on the variety until we see how her tummy adapts. The first bath went a lot more smoothly than expected. There was one small whimper when some water dripped down her face. This morning she was ready to climb into the tub again.

As for J and I, we are having a blast! L is such a happy girl, even a little crazy at times. J loves her crazy, wild side. He says he can “identify” with that tendency. By the way, L is sound asleep now! J calls L a “little mystery”, and we just can’t wait to unfold all the pages of her personality. This little girl is truly teaching us that nothing on this earth is ours. You would think we’d learn this concept with C, but we’re not all that smart. God simply allows us to enjoy his great gifts while we wait for his greatest reward. We are so thankful that C and L will be able to enjoy the friendship and love of a sibling. Now, we pray that our own mess-ups won’t mess them up too badly. Grace and Mercy . . . thank the Lord! We read all of the wonderfully encouraging posts. J thinks a little testosterone will take care of the "tears" problem. But we are both touched by your genuine care for L and our family.

C, enjoy your time with Memom and Grandpa J, aunts and cousins! Make sure you give lots of love to Hershey and Pongo, too, but save a couple of hugs for Daddy, Mommy, and L! Hey, C, can you come up with a nickname for your little sis?
Praise the Lord for another day!

It is so wonderful to get a glimpse of Lil's first night. Thanks for sharing the details with us. The rocking on her hands & knees sounds a lot like you, Andi, when you were little!

Have a great day, well, guess I should say evening by now.

Yes, thank you for the details of the first night. We are so curious about Lilia and how she slept, etc. I was so deeply touched by her comforting herself. Oh my goodness. I didn't know how to do that until I was 45, and then it took three boxes of twinkies and some ho-hos. Seriously, that is the most touching thing I have ever heard. Wah!!! I read it to Caleb and he was deeply affected. Did you get all that Caleb? I asked. He pulled blankie from his lip and said, "Yeah." Then he said, watch Hershey, and he gave her a milkbone--on to the next thing. He was not sad last night at bedtime. Grace is on this boy. We have had much discussion about the dogs this morning. He thinks he likes Pongo more than Hershey at present. He has located one of Pongo's fat lumps, a source of much interest. He has found the right places to brush Pongo so he moves his back leg. He's fed him about 20 milk bones.

Today is hazy and stormy again. Saw Mr. Matt and Katy last night and Matt said your place is fine. Like here, it's been too hot for the grass to grow much.

Nicole is at school. She got in two "dumb classes" as she calls them due to scheduling difficulties. She had to drop a much wanted AP class and go into a regular class. She is in with 15 Sophomore boys and one other senior who is our Greenville equivalent of Napolean Dynamite. In the other 'dumb class' she sits in front of our Greenville Goth. I said, Say hello. Those types get mad if you just ignore them and we don't want to encourage any wild displays to get attention. She said, I did say hello, and just that. So now you see how my prayers are going.

Jacob had an okay day at highschool. He did not get lunch with Nicole. He has his first real game on Saturday. Dad and I watched him scrimage on Friday and he's really turning into a fine player.

Sarah is driving to work each morning, and home at night. She is doing well. I am getting ready to make Caleb his bagel. We are having a lazy morning. The boys are coming after school.
Tomorrow he's going over there to swim. I have two counseling sessions later today and Nicole is watching the brood.

Blessings,
Mother

Your last blog should be in a Dr. S book. M,c,c, & m followed it just fine. We are so excited for you. You know, they way you described her reaching for you and eyes lighting up when she saw you gave a pretty good indication that the transition would be somewhat smooth. Girls are so much easier...as far as you know!! It seems her personality will be a perfect fit for your family!! I know it has been a long time coming for you and J. You have been a testimony to many of your patience & perseverance. This will allow you to share God's faithfulness, timing, and love to others.

It is truely a great day!!

Praise God! Gotcha day sounds like it was truly an amazing moment for all. I know that as Lilia grows she will realize how blessed she is to be adopted, by you and by God.

I definitely don't have enough testosterone, cause I'm a mess. :-) We're excited for your return and our prayers will be with you as you complete this journey.

See you soon.

We're so happy for you! I had tears in my eyes as I read (yes, this is Sarah, not Den!) about your gotcha day and am so thrilled things are going so smoothly. We're reporting all the details to everyone whether they know you or not! We can't wait for you to come home!

Sleeping through the night on Gotcha Day? Could you ask for any more blessings? I'm sure that you will uncover so many things about her in the next few days! How was it to sign those passport papers with "Lilia Cope" on it?

Can't wait to see you guys soon! I might have to "join" the compassion committee just so I can get a glimpse of this girl as soon as I can!

We've been praying for you in Children's Worship. We will be glad to have Caleb back at church in just a short time.
